Servant Leader Teams are groups of students, faculty, staff, local clergy, and community members who come together to fellowship, sponsor
service programs in the local community, and explore the relationship between faith and vocation. Teams are ecumenical and open to any one who shares a call to service as part of their education, career goals, faith, or personal interest. One Team works in the communities around each of the 10 community colleges served by Community College Ministries.
Purpose
Teams provide an arena for community college students to fellowship, look for ways to provide service programs for their community, and explore a variety of careers in the church. Teams do a variety of activities depending on the needs of their community. Some examples of possible Servant Leader Team activities include:
- Raising funds to support low-income students
- Sharing information about childcare options for students who are also parents
- Distributing domestic violence resources to the community
- Sponsoring motivational speakers on campus
- Collecting food and clothing for low-income individuals within the community
- Organizing a global mission trip
- Organizing a team to do home repair for families within the community
- Shadowing individuals who hold careers of interest
- Recruiting local clergy to counsel troubled students
Participation
Community college faculty, staff, local clergy, and community members are vital to the success of Servant Leader Teams. Interested individuals or groups can participate in the following ways, as well as many others:
- Donate to Community College Ministries
- Provide space for Teams to meet or hold activities
- Counsel troubled students
- Share personal experiences in vocation
- Provide leadership for Teams
- Participate in Team activities, such as a food drive
- Donate supplies for service projects
